Answering question #3:
Determining whether an individual with a disability can succeed by going through Walgreens’ regular recruiting or whether s/he needs to first participate in the Walgreens pre-employment training program should be based on what is known about the individual, utilizing information such as the individual's self-reporting, evaluations, performance/success in previous jobs, feedback/references from previous employers, etc.   Examples of factors to consider may include:
  • Whether the individual has been able to be successful in previous jobs without the need for extensive outside supports (e.g., job coaching)
  • The individual's ability to learn new tasks
  • The individual’s knowledge of and adherence to work rules and appropriate work behaviors
  • The individual’s ability to get along with others
  • The individual’s ability to follow directions
  • The individual’s ability to work a full 8-hour day
  • The individual’s ability to maintain a moderate or better work pace
  • The degree to which the individual needs support on the job above and beyond that needed by his/her non-disabled peers

If the individual is anticipated to 1.) meet the minimum job requirements as described in the applicable job posting and 2.) be able to learn the job skills and work rules, as well as meet Walgreens' production requirements within 45 days after hire, then the individual may succeed by applying through Walgreens' regular recruitment.  An application must be submitted directly to Walgreens.  See "How to apply for a job at the Walgreens Distribution Center" on this website for more information.

If the individual’s performance on previous jobs or other related activities indicate that the individual is not likely to succeed within Walgreens’ 45-day probation period without pre-employment training, s/he may need to be referred to the Walgreens Training Program.   See the training program application on this website for instructions on how to submit an application for the training.
If you have additional questions about whether the individual should apply directly to Walgreens or s/he should be referred for the Walgreens Training Program, contact the BRS Walgreens Liaison, Kathleen Gorman (Phone: 860-723-1416; E-mail: kathleen.gorman@ct.gov ).
